After presentations during school by Mrs. Lowe and Mr. Townsend about St. Johns river history, the fourth graders were taken on a Saturday river cruise sponsored by the Keep Putnam Beautiful and by Len Freedman's River Adventures.

      

     

 

In February the first grade science lab classes hatched 11 chicks in the school incubator.    Big Chief Farm Supply arranged for the school to receive  the fertilized eggs and donated food.  The experience of handling the chicks was shared with all the students.  The upper grades demonstrated good retention of the what they had learned in previous years.  The chicks grew rapidly and were sent to their farm home after 3 weeks bearing names selected by the first graders including one called "Dr. Melosh."
