Geri Melosh, PHD
The Principal, Administrator and Visionary Leader

She holds a B.A. Degree from Marietta College, a M.A. Degree from Union Theological Seminary and a PhD from the University of Florida.
She has been involved in education since 1972: After becoming a certified English teacher she began her teaching career as a Peace Corp Volunteer in West Africa. She went on to serve as a volunteer leader and then she taught English as a second language in Mexico. When she came to Putnam County she started to teach remediation of basic skills at Palatka High School. During those years she was awarded county teacher of the year honors.
She moved into administration when she became the Putnam County's first female superintendent. After four years as superintendent she returned to academics and went on to earn her PHD in reading instruction at the University of Florida.
During her studies she lead the creation of The Children's Reading Center, a not-for-profit community based organization focused on struggling readers, their parents and teachers in Putnam County. She guided this organization from successful student tutoring, teacher training and family literacy programs to the creation of Putnam County's first charter school in 2003.
She is originally from Bethesda, Maryland, but has now lived in Putnam County for over twenty years.
She claims that she has hobbies including reading and jogging.
